Tour Overview

About the Gokarna – Udupi Tour

Karnataka's coastal soul in one unhurried journey. Gokarna pairs an ancient Mahabaleshwara temple town with a string of laid-back coves — Om, Kudle, Half Moon and Paradise — reached by cliff paths and country boats. Two hours south, Udupi brings the 13th-century Sri Krishna Matha, the birthplace of Udupi cuisine and the hexagonal basalt rocks of St Mary's Island off Malpe.

Every Gokarna – Udupi journey we design is grounded in local relationships — vetted hotels, hand-picked guides and a curator on call whenever you need us. This itinerary suits couples, families and small groups seeking a balance of iconic sights, culture and quiet time.

Day by Day

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Goa / Hubli → Gokarna & Kudle Beach sunset

Pickup from Dabolim or Hubli airport and a coastal drive south along the Konkan belt into Gokarna (2.5–4 hrs). Check in to your beach resort, then an easy afternoon at Kudle Beach — a broad crescent of sand backed by cliffs and shacks. Watch the sun drop into the Arabian Sea from the rocks at the southern end, followed by a fresh seafood dinner on the sand.

Day 2

Gokarna temple town & the beach-hop boat ride

Morning at the 4th-century Mahabaleshwara Temple, home of the Atmalinga, and a walk down Car Street past tile-roofed wooden houses, brass shops and the Koti Teertha tank. Late morning, board a country boat from Om Beach for the classic beach hop — Half Moon and Paradise beaches, with dolphin spotting in the calmer season and a snorkelling stop. Return for the clifftop trail between Om and Kudle at golden hour.

Day 3

Gokarna → Murudeshwar → Udupi along the coast

Check out and drive south on NH-66 through areca and coconut country. Stop at Murudeshwar for the 123 ft Shiva statue on Kanduka hill, the 20-storey gopura lift and views over the sea on three sides. Optional halt at Maravanthe, where the road runs with the Souparnika river on one side and the ocean on the other. Reach Udupi by evening and check in near the temple square.

Day 4

Sri Krishna Matha, Malpe & St Mary's Island

Early darshan at the 13th-century Sri Krishna Matha, where the deity is viewed through the silver-plated Kanakana Kindi window, followed by the eight mathas of Udupi's temple square and a traditional Udupi thali on a banana leaf. Afternoon ferry from Malpe to St Mary's Island — a protected geological monument of hexagonal basalt columns, white shell sand and palm groves. Sunset back at Malpe Beach.

Day 5

Manipal viewpoint & departure

A relaxed final morning — optional Kaup lighthouse climb, the Hasta Shilpa heritage village at Manipal, or shopping for Udupi filter coffee, banana chips and Kundapura cashew. Check out and transfer to Mangalore airport or railway station (1.5 hrs) for your onward journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most guests fly into Goa (Dabolim or Mopa) and drive 2.5–4 hrs to Gokarna, or fly into Mangalore and start from Udupi. Gokarna Road and Udupi both sit on the Konkan Railway, so trains from Mumbai, Goa and Mangalore are an easy alternative. All transfers are included in the package.

Yes, with one caveat. The temple and beach sightseeing is comfortable for all ages, but the Om–Kudle clifftop walk and the St Mary's Island landing involve uneven rock. We can substitute a road transfer and a relaxed Malpe Beach afternoon for guests with mobility concerns.

Gokarna is quieter, more spiritual and far less developed. There are no nightclubs or big beach resorts — instead you get cliff-backed coves reached on foot or by boat, a working temple town and shack food. Travellers wanting nightlife should add a Goa extension, which we are happy to build in.

Sightings are common between November and February in the calm morning sea, but they are wild animals and never guaranteed. The beach-hop boat ride to Half Moon and Paradise is included regardless of sightings.

Udupi is the birthplace of an entire vegetarian cuisine — masala dosa, goli baje, neer dosa and the multi-course banana-leaf thali all trace back to the temple kitchens here. Your Day 4 thali is at a heritage restaurant in the temple square, and we can add a coastal Mangalorean seafood dinner on request.

Yes. Murudeshwar is already a halt on Day 3, and a Jog Falls detour (best July–December) can be added as an extra night. Tell us your total days and we will restructure the route with all transfers included.

Light cottons, a hat and strong sunscreen, sandals plus one pair of grippy shoes for the cliff trail, a quick-dry set for the boat ride, modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees for temple visits, and a light shawl for early-morning darshan.
