Tour Overview

About the Mahabaleshwar & Panchgani Tour

The Western Ghats' most-loved twin hill stations — misty escarpments at Arthur's Seat, boat rides and horse trails at Venna Lake, the flat-topped plateau of Panchgani's Table Land, and strawberry farms you can pick from. Add the Maratha history of Pratapgad Fort and cool 18–25°C air, and you have the perfect short escape from Mumbai or Pune.

Every Mahabaleshwar & Panchgani journey we design is grounded in local relationships — vetted hotels, hand-picked guides and a curator on call whenever you need us. This itinerary suits couples, families and small groups seeking a balance of iconic sights, culture and quiet time.

Day by Day

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Pune / Mumbai → Mahabaleshwar via Panchgani ghats

Pickup from Pune airport or railway station (3 hrs) or Mumbai (5.5 hrs) and a scenic climb through the Sahyadri ghats with a photo halt at the Panchgani parsi bungalow stretch. Check in to your valley-view resort by afternoon, then head out for a Venna Lake evening — pedal boats, pony rides and roadside corn and strawberry-cream stalls. Dinner at the resort.

Day 2

Mahabaleshwar viewpoint circuit & Old Mahabaleshwar temples

Full-day sightseeing across the plateau: Arthur's Seat (the Queen of Viewpoints, where the Konkan meets the Deccan), Echo Point, Kate's Point, Needle Hole Point and Elephant's Head. Afternoon at Lingmala Waterfall and the Mapro Garden for a strawberry milkshake and pizza stop. Sunset at Wilson Point — the highest spot in Mahabaleshwar at 1,439 m. Evening free at the Mahabaleshwar market for chikki, fudge and honey.

Day 3

Pratapgad Fort & Panchgani Table Land

Morning drive (24 km of hairpin bends) to Pratapgad Fort, built in 1656 by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the site of his legendary encounter with Afzal Khan — climb the 500-odd steps for ramparts, the Bhavani temple and sweeping Sahyadri views. Return via a working strawberry farm for a pick-your-own session. Afternoon at Panchgani's Table Land plateau — horse rides, Devil's Kitchen caves and Parsi Point sunset over the Dhom Dam backwaters.

Day 4

Leisure morning & departure

A slow hill-station morning — optional Panchgani boarding-school heritage drive or a nature walk through Sassoon Point. Shop for farm-fresh strawberry preserves, mulberry crush and Mapro produce before checking out. Private transfer back to Pune or Mumbai for your onward flight or train.

  • Panchgani Table Land — Asia's second-largest mountain plateau
  • Strawberry farm visit with fresh picking and cream tasting

Frequently Asked Questions

Mahabaleshwar is about 120 km from Pune (3 hours) and 260 km from Mumbai (5.5–6 hours) by road. Both are comfortable drives on the NH48 / Satara route, and we include private AC transfers from either city in this package.

Strawberries fruit from December to March, peaking in January and February. During this window we include a working-farm visit with pick-your-own. Outside the season we swap in a Mapro Garden or Mala's fruit-processing visit so you still get the strawberry story — and the preserves.

It is beautiful but different. July to September the hills are emerald and Lingmala, Dhobi and Chinaman waterfalls are in full flow, but Arthur's Seat and Table Land are frequently lost in fog and Table Land can shut. If you want valley views and photographs, travel October to March instead.

Yes — this itinerary extends easily. Popular add-ons are Panchgani-only extensions, Wai (temple town and film locations), Kaas Plateau (flower valley, August–September), Tapola 'Mini Kashmir' for kayaking, or a Lonavala–Khandala leg on the way back to Mumbai.

Very much so. The viewpoint circuit, Venna Lake and Mapro Garden are all easy and vehicle-accessible. Only Pratapgad Fort involves a steep 500-step climb — guests who prefer to skip it can wait at the base viewpoint café or we can substitute the Panchgani plateau drive.

Strawberry and mulberry preserves, crushes and fudge from Mapro or Mala's, gulkand, local honey, chikki from Mahabaleshwar market, and leather chappals. Most stores pack for travel and we build a shopping window into the last morning.

No advance booking is required — both are open to walk-in visitors with small entry or parking fees. We simply time your visits to avoid peak weekend crowds, which are heaviest between 11 am and 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
